Silent Lake Provincial Park

Just gorgeous! That is my first thought as we drive toward the gate house. It was about an hour from where we were staying. I figured we could do the trails and get back for the evening, we were drained from the yard work and adventuring the previous two days but the idea of leaving it unexplored was unthinkable.

There is so much going on here and there is activity in the winter which is super cool and in my ignorance had no idea snow could be a thing. This also makes me think about skiing, more that it exists and people do it. That is about the extent of my knowledge on the sport. We had enough time to walk Bonnie’s Pond which was a moderate trail. A lot of up and down, there were lots of root systems jutting from the ground it was important to pay attention to your feet. It is a three kilometre loop that will take you back to the parking lot. We came across a sign an observation point ahead on Silent Lake. We took the trail it lead us to a large cluster of rocks high above the water.

There was a bench to sit and take in the view, these are the times I’m so happy we have our own chairs. We set up on the rock face and had our lunch feeling the cool breeze off the lake, we met a couple while we were having lunch that told us they had spent the better part of 40 years returning to Silent Lake for their holiday. What I am looking forward to is their 15 kilometre trail, it’s listed as a six hour walk where you can see a beaver dam. I cannot wait to go back!

When it came to different mushrooms we found some neat things. We are still working on getting better at identifying all of this life we are finding.
