The Double crested cormorant at Merritt Island in Welland Ontario

This Double-Crested Cormorant is a juvenile sitting in a tree on the Welland River in Welland, Ontario, Canada. Exploring Ontario also means checking out your own backyard. Merritt Island is very close for us so it is a great place to go on a small birding expedition. There is the Welland River as well as the Welland Canal that cross at this point. We would frequent Merritt Island to get a quick fix on some birds, specifically the water fowl and ducks. We have noticed lately that the Double crested Cormorant has been becoming more common here, or we are just starting to notice. We always take a little time to appreciate all birds, no matter how common they seem to us. The Double crested Cormorant is really a cool bird when you get a chance to take a close look. When they swim they are very low in the water making them look small. In Welland they are usually perched up in tall trees along the Welland River. I took this chance to record one just sitting around, then he took off. Please Comment, Like and Subscribe.
